ben woodward

Today, I read an interview with Philly based artist Ben Woodward on fecalface and a few things he said made me 1. Think of Frog and 2. Result in me enjoying his work more

Things he said that reminded me of Frog:
When asked,

What do love most about living in Philly?

Phila is the best, not only is it cheap enough to own a house, but the people that I live and work around are always inspirational.

What are you really excited about right now?

The Wire.

Things that made me enjoy his work more:
When asked,

If you had to explain your work to a stranger, how would you do it?

It's surrealism for people that were taught to read by muppets.

What emotion translates best for you?

Sleepy and reluctant acceptance. Like the sigh you let out be for you have to clean dog poop off the carpet.

Plus, the fact that Free News Projects is publishing an illustrated children's book by Woodward entitled "Sullivan's Solo" about a bunch of birds that save their friend with poop. Any children's book having to do with poop is always worthwhile.

So anyway here are some pieces that I really liked:

You can see more by him at www.space1026.com

If you're in LA go to the Carmichael Gallery for Contemporary Art, where Woodward is having his first solo westcoast show entitled Beep boop Beep boop. It runs from March 8th to March 30th.

p.s. He's got an asian wife.
